A wiki is an online database intended to create, edit and share. Wiki means "quick" or "informal" in Hawaiian. The theory is that you do not need to know HTML, CSS, or other programming languages to quickly set up a web collaboration tool and start using it immediately.

Wikis are a part of the "Read/Write Web": create or edit content as a group and invite others to read and contribute material using the internet as a bridge. A wiki can be an ensemble of web pages and there is also the potential for "mashups" with other types of online tools.
